The Canadian government is partnering with the B.C. Climate Action Secretariat and the B.C. Safety Council to give Canadians tips on conserving fuel. Fuel-efficient driving information will now be incorporated into the council’s driver safety courses, helping participants reduce vehicle fuel consumption by up to 20%.

Edmonton to make fuel from garbage
Edmonton will soon become the first city in Canada to turn its solid waste into liquid fuel as the city has signed an agreement with two Canadian biofuel companies to turn regular garbage out of landfills into ethanol.

Biofuels bill receives royal assent
The Senate has voted in favour of the Government of Canada's Biofuels Bill, which will amend the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (Bill C-33) to give the Government authority to develop regulations for renewable fuels mandating a 5% renewable content in gasoline by 2010 and 2% renewable content in diesel fuel and heating oil by 2012.

Government’s biofuels bill passes in the House of Commons
The government passes its biofuels legislation through the House of Commons, which allows requirements that all gasoline sold in Canada contain 5% ethanol by 2010, and all diesel and heating oil contain 2% renewable fuels by 2012. The legislation will now proceed to the Senate of Canada for debate.
